A Weekend Full of Fun

We have been quite busy this weekend doing lots of fun stuff with friends. LOCAL friends, might I add! Thursday night William invited a couple of coworkers, John and Lindsay, over to play cards and hang out. John had been over here several times before and also helped take care of Molly when we were out of town once. Lindsay had been over here one other time, but it was cut short because Arden was really fussy and I was having to go back and forth from playing a game to the nursery. This time was a success and the girls dominated in Canasta.
.
Friday night we had our first real babysitter look after Arden so that we could go to the Brian Regan show. Courtney came over and took care of Arden for us. Emily Gray had given us tickets to go see the show - he's a really funny comedian for those of you who haven't heard of him - so we went! It was so fun to go see and we definitely laughed a lot. It was such a treat to get out of the house together without the baby and without feeling like I had to rush home to feed him. (I had left some bottles for Courtney, so don't worry we didn't just let him starve!)
.
Saturday morning we got together with our friends, Anna and David, who live in our complex, to go antique shopping. David has done a lot of travelling and started collecting different things from that, and William has been thinking about starting a collection of old science or math books, so we decided an antique shopping outing was needed! They came over at about 11:30 and we headed to Fishy Finds - a local antique shop. We looked around in there for quite some time and came out with a couple of books and Anna found a fun game - "Who will your lover be" - that with the rolling around of a few balls that landed on certain characteristics, would tell you the type of lover you would have. After we were done there, we stopped by the apartment to get a bottle for Arden and headed to Spark for lunch. It's actually a fine dining restaurant that has fairly reasonable prices for lunch. It was nice to sit down and visit with them and to get out of the heat for a bit. After lunch we went to a couple more antique shops and just walked around and had a good time making fun of some of the ridiculous things that were there. I came out with some old toy blocks that spelled out Arden for his nursery. We were out until about 5pm and Arden did GREAT the whole time. We took him around in the Baby Bjorn and he didn't fuss at all!
Saturday night William invited another coworker, Baruch, (pronounced Bear-uck) and his fiance, Maria, over to play a game. I had never met either of them, but they were fun and quite friendly. Baruch reminds us of our friend Taylor Poole, who William roomed with the year before we got married, and Maria reminded me of Rachel Taddia, who I grew up with at Independent. They are from Tucson and even though Baruch has been here for over a year, Maria just moved out here about a month ago. They are getting married in February. We enjoyed a game of Settler of Catan and had some coffee and cookies that they brought over.
.
Sunday we actually made it to church even though I really don't know why we bother yet. Arden is so distracting to us during the service that we really don't get much out of it. We are constantly trying to keep him quiet (even though we sit in the Family Training for Worship room) and we are in and out changing diapers or heating up a bottle or whatever. It is nice to see our friends and to sing the hymns, but we decided we might wait a couple more weeks before we try again - at least until we are actually getting some sleep at night and aren't so exhausted and practically falling asleep when we aren't up bouncing Arden around. Until then, we might just stick to Ricky Jones' sermons online (I like them better anyway!)
.
So anyway, like I said, we had a busy weekend, but it was a lot of fun. Plus, it was all spent with people who live IN Simi Valley. If you recall, that is a big deal since most of our friends live at LEAST 30 minutes away. We're making progress in the local friends area and it's been good!
.
On the baby front: Arden slept 5 straight hours last night and 2 hours this morning for a nap, so you know what that means?....Mommy slept 5 straight hours last night and 2 hours this morning for a nap! Sleep is my friend. He turned 2 months old yesterday and I've been told by several people that their babies started sleeping more at 2 months, so I'm hoping that's the case with Arden...we shall see!
