Babymoon Part 1

As I mentioned in our previous post about our anniversary, William and I had decided to take a little trip to celebrate our anniversary and to have one last trip before the baby arrives...a babymoon if you will. We thought we would go to Sequoia National Park and see the big Sequoia trees and spend the night somewhere around there, but when we actually started planning our trip, we realized that we picked a rather busy weekend..Memorial Day Weekend...and that finding a hotel was more difficult than we had anticipated. SO...we used Friday night to "plan" our trip. By plan our trip, I mean that we watched two movies while William looked online at hotels only to realize that pretty much everywhere near Sequoia was booked. We discussed some other options consisting of San Diego, Yosemite, and San Francisco. We had only planned on staying one night somewhere, but thought that we would need to stay two nights if we went anywhere besides Sequoia to make the trip worth it. We went to bed Friday night, not knowing where we would go or how long we would stay there, we just knew we were getting up in the morning and heading out...somehwere.
.
We got up early Saturday morning and got dressed and started packing..still not knowing where we were going. I called Susan to see if she could stay at the apartment with Molly for two nights rather than just one, and once we got an ok from her, we decided we'd stay two nights and that our destination would be San Francisco. We have been talking about going there since we moved out here and what better time to finally make it happen! William planned out our route on the Pacific Coast Hwy (Hwy 1). He planned for several stops along the way to make it more of a road trip rather than just driving to San Fran. I charged the ipod while we finished packing and
loaded up the car to head out on our spontaneous adventure. We left our apartment around 10 and stopped at Starbucks on the way out of town. (Bear in mind the only real preparation we had made was printing out a few directions for a couple of stops..no hotel reservations or really any plan of where we were actually going.)
.
We drove through Santa Barbara and several other places on our way to our first stop: Pismo Beach. We had packed sandwiches for lunch and decided to have a picnic on the beach at Pismo. There are sand dunes all around the beach, which were pretty cool to see. We walked to a spot and spread out our towels to sit and have our lunch. After we ate, we walked along the beach a little ways. William walked in the water some, but it was way too cold for me! After about an hour we decided to hit the road and continue on. The beach was really pretty and quite relaxing.

Here we are on the beach. Yes we are wearing jackets because it was quite chilly. The jackets were basically an afterthought as we were packing, but we were so glad to have them because it was pretty chilly everywhere we went!
William walking in the water. We found some pretty cool sand dollars and shells. He got pretty wet right at the end from an unexpected big wave.
The sand dunes...basically just hills of sand covered in some pretty flowers/greenery.
.
So that was the first stop of our adventure. So far, so good. Once we left Pismo Beach, we hit Hwy 1 and actually started our tour of the Pacific Coast Hwy, but you'll have to stay tuned to see what was next! We've decided to break up the posts about the trip so we can put some good pics up of all of our stops and so that we don't have one big post that is 100 pages long! So...more to come on our babymoon adventures.
