This past weekend we ventured out into the Los Angeles area, away from quaint little Simi Valley, into the big ole city. We were feeling adventurous on Saturday and wanted to actually explore this place in which we call home and decided that we'd go to downtown LA or something of the sorts. We called up our friends, Zach and Audrey, to help us decide what to do and to see if they wanted to join us. We ended up deciding against downtown because there were a bunch of protestors for the new Arizona immigration law thing. Zach suggested Chinatown, and we agreed that would be fun. We met them at their apartment in Hollywood and walked a few blocks to the subway station. Yep, that's right. We took the subway - like big city folk! It was definitely an interesting ride! After the first stop, this guy got on pulling this cart full of crap. He asked if I could move, (I was holding onto one of the bars in the middle of the train) and pushed his cart up to the pole, strapped it to the pole with a bike lock, pulled out his guiter, plugged in his amp and started to give us a show. "I am a professional musician (no doubt by the looks of it) and I would appreciate it if you would listen to this song, blah, blah, donations will be taken up afterwards, blah, blah." He put on his headphones from his Discman (welcome to the 90's Mr. Professional) and began to play some really loud obnoxious song on his guitar. We ended up moving down the train a ways because it was so stinking loud and we had the babe in tow. Anyway, we made it to Union Sation and then took one more train to Chinatown. We walked around through the shops, (you've seen one shop, you've seen them all - you know how it goes) walked through an art gallery opening, saw a wedding party taking pictures, and just enjoyed browsing around the street. After taking a few pictures, we headed back to the subway, and back to Hollywood for dinner. We went to an El Salvadorian restaurant for dinner. The food was pretty good and the music was even better! I wanted to dance, but I wasn't quite convinced how cool it would be to be the only white girl in the place dancing by myself on the dance floor, so I passed. Next time, though. After a long dinner, (which Arden slept through, loud music and all) we headed home for bed. We hope to take more of these adventures in the near future. I mean we're here, may as well enjoy it eh?

Just waiting for the subway

Sorry it's not a great pic of us, but here's proof we were in Chinatown.
