This weekend we went on our first family camping trip. A friend from church put together a birthday camping trip and invited us to come along. We were a little hesitant at first because of the babe, but decided to go for it, and we sure were glad that we did! We went to Wheeler Gorge near Ojai, CA - about an hour and a half away from home. We got there around 8:30 on Friday night and unloaded some of our stuff. Arden fell asleep in the car so we just let him sleep in his seat while we got stuff out of the car and got settled in. We had decided that Arden and William would sleep in the back of the wagon and that Molly and I would sleep in our tent. After William had gotten the car all set up, we attempted to transfer Arden to his sleeping quarters and he was not happy! I think he was just really confused and disoriented, so he cried for a little while but eventually went back to sleep. We hung out around the campfire with everyone for a while before going to bed ourselves. Since not everyone came on Friday night, the girls said that Molly and I could just sleep in their "big ass" tent. We attempted it, but Molly ended up escaping because of a defective zipper, so our friend, Amanda, and I, after getting Molly back, set up our tent, holding flashlights in our mouths while everyone else was already asleep. Anyway, the night wasn't great for neither me nor William. Molly paced the tent all night and Arden got cold and woke up quite a bit in the car. Before the sun even came up, William had to sit up and hold Arden and wrap him in blankets to keep him warm so that he would sleep. We were tired, but were still able to enjoy Saturday. Amanda and I went for a run in the morning (4 miles, woohoo!) and then we hung around the site for a little while as everyone else started to get there. We were right by a creek so we all spent a little time wandering around and just enjoying the coolness of the water (it started to get pretty hot). After lunch and a quick nap for Arden and William, William, Arden and I went for a hike with the Ashtons. It was a really neat hike along the water and around the mountains a bit. Toward the end of the hike Molly started getting really exicted and started to run. I was holding her leash, but at one point she took off and ripped the leash out of my hands. William, who was carrying Arden in a backpack, started running after her and I started running behind him. He eventually caught her leash, but I stepped on a rock the wrong way and fell down. I immediately felt it in my ankle. I was able to finish the hike and get back to the campsite and just sat down and iced it for a while. However, after sitting for awhile, it became apparent that it was sprained and it probably wouldn't be the wisest thing to camp out for a second night. With that, we decided we'd head home later that night. We just hung out around the fire and had dinner with everyone for awhile before heading out. Arden fell asleep sitting with me by the fire while William packed up all of our stuff and then hung out a little after he was done. We headed home around 9:30 and got back around 11 last night. It was a great first experience and we think we'll definitely try again in the near future.
Side note: Molly was a GREAT camp dog as well and had tons of fun in the water and exploring everything outside!
Here are a few pics from the weekend:

By the creek - Molly had just tired herself out splashing and running in the water

Get me out of here! After just waking up in the morning.
