Last weekend William and I had ourselves one heck of a time! We had planned a trip to Laguna Beach to celebrate our third anniversary. We arranged for Arden to stay with our friends, the Ashtons, so that we could have an entire weekend baby-free. This is HUGE, considering we had never left him overnight. It's hard to do that sort of thing when you don't live near family, so it was a huge treat to get to go alone. We got into Laguna Beach around 9:30 on Friday night and checked into our awesome hotel. We stayed at Casa Laguna that was an old Spanish style inn. It had outdoor entry to every room but the walkways leading to each room were lined with pretty flowers and fountains and plants and lovely seating areas, etc. It was quite lovely. After getting settled in a bit we went down the street to the little downtown area to find a bite to eat. We stopped at a Mexican restaurant for some guacamole and a quesadilla. Yum! We saw several tables of girls that reminded me of LC and the gang from the show Laguna Beach...their personalities and looks were not made up on the show...just saying. After that we headed back to our hotel to enjoy our jacuzzi in our room.
Saturday morning we slept in (ahhhhhh) before heading down to breakfast at the hotel. We sat outside in a neat little patio area and had a delightful breakfast. We then headed to Target for a few snacks and some sunglasses before going to Dana Point for a whale watching tour. We got to the harbor to find tons of cars from a boat show that was going on, leaving little to no parking for us. We finally found a spot and had to practically run to the place where we needed to check in. We were worried we might miss it even though we had already paid for it! We made it on time, though and boarded the boat shortly after. We road for quite a while before we saw anything, but then we found a huge pod of dolphin. In the pod was one of only 6 albino common dolphins in the world, and we got to see it! On our way back in, we hadn't seen a whale yet, but the guy driving the boat spotted one and we were able to see a blue whale for several minutes. It was amazing! That night we went out in Laguna Beach for some seafood and ice cream.
Just watching some dolphins
The white dolphin
They had this neat part of the boat that you could go down in and see under the water...got to feel like we were swimming with the dolphins.
For your viewing pleasure:
Sunday morning we slept in again and then checked out of the hotel. We stopped at Starbucks for some breakfast, which we took and ate on the beach. We walked around by the water just a little bit before heading out. Our next stop was a Dodgers game. We had gotten t-shirts beforehand, so we were all suited up and ready to go. Our seats were directly in the sun, but other than that, it was pretty fun! We had some veggie hot dogs and nachos and fro-yo. Toward the end of the game, which had 11 innings, we finally got smart and moved to a spot in the shade.
Can you guess what this kid's hat is made of???
After the game, which the Dodgers won, we headed to an ice cream social that our church was having so that we could pick Arden up from the Ashtons. We all had a great a weekend and will hopefully be able to do something like that again in the not so distant future!
Can't post without a little bit of little buddy! Here are some of his lastest tricks:
