Happy Birthday Dear Porter!

I know this is a month late, but better late than never!
On October 24th, we celebrated Porter Boy's 1st birthday! We had celebrated a little bit in Memphis with my family before coming back home, but we couldn't let the actual day pass without celebrating this sweet baby boy! In Memphis, we had cake and ice cream and opened a few presents with the family. He was definitely shown the love and he LOVED his cake! Thanks again Missy and Emmy!!

Celebrating with Missy, Brother, Pop, Emmy, Aunta and Mimi!

"Um, I'm not really sure what is going on here, but I know that my brother is really excited about it all so I guess I am too!"

On the actual day though, we started the morning off with balloons galore! We took balloons into Porter's room when he woke up and shouted "Happy Birthday!"

Then we came downstairs and gave him his present from us. Arden was more anxious than anyone to open the present (even though he knew exactly what it was because he picked it out!). They opened his present and played with it for a while before breakfast.

Later that morning we got some packages in the mail from Missy and Pop that were very exciting as well! Arden got a package too and they were both really excited about what was inside. Toys and candy and clothes galore!

The Loot

After lunch and naps, we got ready for the birthday party.

Birthday lunch is SO exciting!

We had several friends come over for dinner and cake and ice cream. We ate and visited and opened presents and just celebrated Porter and had a great time together.

 Always happy when he's eating!

Getting a chance to open a present by himself! Notice big brother is right there to help in case he "needs" it.

I made Porter's cake and as I was decorating it I realized a big oops! I cut the cake into the shape of a 1 except I cut it completely backwards! It was ridiculous. But what was even more ridiculous was that I didn't realize I had done it until I was almost done decorating it. It was hilarious.

Porter's own personal cake

Anyway, we had a great time and are so blessed to have Porter in our family.

Now for what he's been up to as a one year old..... He can walk while pushing something and can take several steps on his own. He is starting to make sounds that are starting to sound like words. He has said "mama" and "dada" and I'm pretty sure "bubba." He can say something like "woof" for dog and he always points at things and says "this." He knows what it means when we say "go get in your chair to eat" or "go under your crib and get your pacis" or "go get brother" and much more. He understands so much and actually follows directions reasonably well! He loves toys that match - two soccer balls, two monster trucks, two Lightening McQueen cars, etc. He loves climbing on things and can climb up into our kitchen chairs or on our coffee table or a toilet all on his own. He loves laughing and doing anything that his brother is doing. He is such a sweet baby and so easy going. He is content to just sit and play with toys or crawl around pushing some cars. He sleeps really well and wants to get in his bed and go to sleep on his own when he is tired. He still loves his bottle and won't quite give it up yet (we tried!). He loves eating and wants to eat when he's hungry and not wait a minute longer! He gets really excited about new things and starts to shake with excitement. He loves waving at new people and saying hi in his own way. He loves climbing on and rolling around in our bed with Arden. He loves books and pointing to pictures in them. He LOVES airplanes and points to them as soon as he hears them outside and starts making a the noise for them. He is now in a forward facing car seat and loves being able to point to things out the window just like brother. He is just so sweet and I can't get enough of his chubby cheeks and glowing smile! We love you Porter Boy and look forward to many more birthdays to come!
