Boot Camp

As I mentioned earlier, I have started going to Boot Camp this week, and if I had to sum it up in one word, it would probably have to be holy cow! (ok that's two words, but you get it.)
Let me tell you about it!
I started on Monday morning. I woke up at 4:50am (aka the middle of the night) to get there by 5:15 so that I could sign a waiver and stuff before it started at 5:30. I didn't sleep at all that night because even though I wasn't nervous mentally, I think I was subconsciously. I arrived before anyone else, including the instructor (as of late, I have realized how much of an idol punctuality is for me since I get so frustrated when the children make us late EVERYWHERE we go, so as you can imagine, it was nice being early for something for once...even though I was probably just worshipping that idol of punctuality in the process...anyway...). Once a couple of people arrived, I went inside and met the instructor, Adam. I signed a waiver and awkwardly waited around while everyone else showed up, high-fived, gave hugs, etc. I am so awkward in new settings and this was no exception, so naturally, I just stood there and watched, but oh well, I was there and I was doing this thing! We started with a warm up run. Adam said to do 4 laps around the buildings. "Do 4 laps, the long way, just follow them" he says. Ok, simple enough. I started out following a couple of people, passed a couple of people, lost track of who I was following, etc. I did 4 laps the "long way," but toward the end I didn't see anyone outside anymore, and I was starting to wonder where everybody went. After my 4th lap, when I made it back to the building, a girl was standing outside cheering for me "Come on, you guys!" (aka "Come on whoever you are who is holding up the class!"). When I finished, she asked how many laps I did, and when I said I had done 4, she responded with "Oh, if you go the long way, you typically just do 2 or 3. He thought you had gotten lost." Perfect. So everyone was inside waiting for me. Even better. Is this some sort of trick on the new girl...tell her to do something but that's not actually what she's supposed to do? Ridiculous. Anyway, after that embarrassment, we started the workout. It was really great, but really hard. I'm pretty sure I spent about 30% of the class with my hands on my knees trying not to pass out or die from not breathing, but I made it through and enjoyed it. I thought I had been working out before by doing my Jillian Michaels dvds, but no, I was completely wrong. I may as well have been sleeping because compared to boot camp, Jillian's dvds are a breeze! It's basically a circuit workout where you start at a station with 2 different exercises that you alternate doing every 30 seconds. After doing that 3 times, you switch stations. There are 3 or 4 stations each time and you go around twice and then stretch and cool down. It's an hour long, but it goes really fast and there's no way to get bored!
Anyway, I went back Tuesday and today, but I went to the 6:45am class because Porter has changed his schedule yet again. He's been waking up around 6, so I feed him and put him back down and then go which is better than trying to get it done before he wakes up. Tuesday I was in a group with Umberto and after making it through most of the workout he asked me how long I had been coming. When I told him it was only my 2nd day, he said "What?! Well you're skinny and strong, so you're doing better than I am." Thank you Umberto, really, I guess my work here is done then, and I should just go back to bed! And after only 2 days! I'd say this workout is pretty effective! Ha, right! Anyway, it really is fun and I feel great even though I'm pretty sure every single muscle in my body is sore. I've got 6 weeks of classes that are paid for thanks to my Groupon, and I'm pretty sure I'll be asking for more once the 6 weeks are over!
And, since I am always in a better mood when I workout, I am more patient and ready to start the day with these two stinkers when I get home:

I'm soooooooooooooooo impressed! I was proud that I've been getting up and going for a 30-minute walk at 5:30! HA!

Sitting on my couch completely laughing my head off. Your running the 4 laps and Umberto's comment have me rolling. I can relate though. Some days Jed begs me to work out because Jesus created endorphines for me specifically. I need them SO bad and am a grumpy mess without them. Keep on, sister!
