A Home Away From Home

We were in Lancaster, CA, aka the desert, for about 3 weeks, living out of the Homewood Suites. Lancaster and Palmdale are pretty much one in the same, but we were in Lancaster and everything else was in Palmdale (aka restaurants, stores, etc), so it was a bit annoying to drive farther than I'm used to just to get to the store, but it was doable. It's a normal city with the usual Target and Trader Joe's readily available, but it was most definitely in the desert. Molly Bear often had a difficult time finding a spot to poop seeing as how she will only go on grass. The first couple of days that we were there I thought I was going to go crazy - partly because I watched way too many episodes of Hoarders in one sitting, and partly because we were in the desert, living in a hotel. However, after a couple of days of feeling like I would explode, we got outside, found a park and did things around town to pass our time in the desert. (Bear in mind that I am a homemaker and I usually pass my time at home, making it a home, cleaning it, cooking meals, etc, so this whole having a maid and having nothing to do was a bit overwhelming at times) Anywho, I won't go into detail about our day to day activities, I'll just show you in pictures what we spent our days doing:

We woke up each morning (much later than Daddy who had to leave by 6am) with the question of "What should we do today?"

After breakfast and taking Molly for a walk, we came back and played and watched some Elmo on TV for a little while.

When we were bored with toys and Elmo, we got dressed and headed out for an adventure.

Some days we went to the dog park...

...where we splashed in the buckets of water that are supposed to be for the dogs.

And after the park we drove through McDonald's for the first time to get a super sized ice water (mind you, probably the only thing he will ever get from McDonald's if I have any say in it!) We also enjoyed playing with this huge cup of ice water for quite a while after we got back home.

Some days we just played around the hotel. One day we went to Target and got a new truck to play with at the hotel. It was quite a hit.

We ran up and down the halls of the hotel, quacked at the duck logo that was on every door, pushed the buttons on the elevators, said hi to the housekeepers, etc.

2 out of the 3 of us took naps everyday

We were always excited when Daddy got home from work. We would play with him and read and eat dinner together.

Every night Arden took a bath in the sink. It was quite exciting, and now every sink is referred to as a "ba" = bath.

At the end of the day, we watched the pretty sunset out of the window and then went to sleep soon after.

All in all our stay went by pretty quickly and we found ways to pass the time, without spending too much time just sitting around the hotel room. While we were there, a co-worker invited us to his home for Monday Night Football where I met a couple of other moms who have children who I got together with a couple of times after that just to hang out. We became instant friends and were sad, for that reason, that our stay in the desert was so short. However, we are keeping in touch and hope to hang out with them some more even though we aren't still living out there.

Up Next: Our trip to Memphis (and I promise it won't be 2 weeks before I post about that)
